When I was a child, my family used a gas rice cooker which could make Okoge(おこげ)/Scorched Rice. Not so often, but, I was able to enjoy crunchy texture of Okoge/Scorched Rice at times. Young people are inclined to love Okoge/Scorched Rice. Oops, I know it's hard to say I'm young. On the other hand, some people, especially old people, dislike Okoge. Until 1950s, Japan was one of developing countries. Most families had to scrape off Okoge stuck to the bottom of the pan. Old people feel fed up with even looking at Okoge which reminds them of their childhood. As a matter of course, some young people also dislike. They say Okoge tastes bitter and smells bad. Plus, there is a health concern. Okoge is likely to develop a cancer. Anyway, here is a restaurant at where we can enjoy Okoge. |
☆Sumiya Komezō(炭家米蔵)
Feature Komezō servers rice with a hot iron pan. It's rare. Looking back, I ever seen such a kind of serving way a few times. We have to dish out rice by ourselves. You can enjoy unlimited hot coffee, iced coffee, oolong tea and orange juice. My Opinion Rice is not so hotter than I think. Eating at home is the best way to have hot rice.
